KATT WILLIAMS – THE NEW KING OF COMEDY

Anyone who knows me well understands my love of laughter. As a teenager Richard Pryor’s album “Is it Something I Said” was an album I played (and continue to play) over and over again.   And then I saw Katt Williams!

The first time I saw Katt Williams was in 2004 at the Improv. He was an opening act for Mo’Nique and he brought the house down.  I can’t remember exactly what it was he said after all these years, but I do remember laughing so hard I had to wipe tears from my eyes.  He had so much energy!  After the show he came outside and we talked. I told him then, “You are going to be BIG-BIG!”  He was humble. He invited my girlfriends and I to come out and see him at Hollywood Park where he was performing regularly.

The next thing I know, he appeared in Ice Cube’s movie, “Friday After Next” as the Pimp - Money Mike.  The rest is history.   Katt Williams Live, The Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1, American Hustle and several top selling movies.

IT’S PIMPIN' PIMPIN' TOUR

I caught Katt’s show on Friday night at the Gibson Amphitheatre; a 6,000 seat sold-out venue.   D’Militant from Def Comedy Jam and Comic View was the host. The show opened with a rapper I’d never heard of named Klutch, followed by a female rapper, who was alright, but the crowd was really ready for comedy.  First to appear on stage was a female comedian who goes by the name
Simply Cookie.   She rocked it talking about the price of gas and how she couldn’t wait for her teenage son to get out of the house.

Next up was Just Leslie, aka Leslie Jones.  At first I wasn’t sure about Leslie, but when she let loose she brought the house down talking about being single and not having enough sex.  She was crazy funny! She came down into the orchestra pit and she straight clowned people.  She received a standing ovation when her set was over.  I’m still laughing when I think about her routine.  I see a great future for her as a female comic.

And then…..the moment everyone was waiting for. The fog machines started the introduction was made and Katt Williams entered the stage from the left to a standing ovation.  As I expected, he talked about Hillary Clinton, Obama, Bush, his children (which he has 8 and 7 of them are adopted).  He talked about Huckabee and referenced that his name sounded like some bad weed. (LOL!)  Whether you paid $25.00 or $125.00, Katt Williams delivered.  At the close of his show he let everyone know how much he appreciated them, something a lot of comedians forget to do.

Everyone in the venue stood up and cheered.  I stood and looked to the left, the right, behind me and up in the nose-bleed section.  Everyone was on their feet.  I turned back towards the stage, smiled and thought, “I told you Katt Williams –you were gonna be BIG-BIG!”

A great comedian takes everyday life situations and makes them funny.  Katt Williams does this better than most.  Any single man who would adopt 7 children
(from here and not from Africa) is a man after my own heart. Katt Williams is not just a great comedian, Katt Williams has a heart of gold.
